Popularly known as Medikal, Rapper Samuel Adu Frimpong as he was born has been convicted by the Accra Circuit Court on February 21, 2022.
The conviction came after the rapper pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful public display of firearms in public, a case that has been in court for some time now.
A court presided by His Lordship Emmanuel Essandoh after hearing the guilty plea of Medikal, sentenced him to 300 penalty units. The penalty unit in currency amounts to ¢3,600. According to the sentence, if the rapper fails to pay the fine, he will serve nine months in jail.
If we remember, the police arrested the musician for brandishing a gun in a video posted on social media and charged him for unlawful display of arms and ammunition in the month of September 2021.
Medikal had initially pleaded not guilty to the charge when he made his first appearances in court, but the court refused him bail.
The rapper was remanded into police custody for five days. When he reappeared before the court on October 26, the adjudicator granted him a ¢100,000 bail and the case was adjoined to January 2022.
On his appearance in court after the sentence, the Defense Counsel for Medikal prayed the Circuit Court to release the Musician’s Ruger 9mm pistol confiscated by the Police after it was displayed on social media.
