The government of Ghana’s controversial e-levy tax policy kicks off on May 1, 2022. Since its approval by parliament and the subsequent assertion by the president of the republic, the Ghana Revenue Authority and the Ministry of Finance have been educating Ghanaians on which transactions will be taxed and those that will not.
In this article, I bring to you a list of 5 transactions that will face the e-levy charges when it kicks off so that you will know what to do and what not to do from the 1st of May, 2022.

Here are 5 Transactions that are affected by e-levy
1. Mobile money transfer done between accounts on the same electronic money issuer (transfers between different users on the same network)
2. Mobile money transfer from an account on one electronic money issuer to a recipient on another electronic money issuer (transfers between users on different networks)
3. Transfers from a bank account to mobile money account using electronic transfer modes including;
- Direct transfer
- Ghana Interbank payments and settlements system
- Any other mode determined by the finance minister in writing
4. Transfers from mobile money accounts to bank accounts using any of the following modes;
- Direct transfer
- Ghana Interbank payments and settlements system
- Any other mode determined by the finance minister in writing
5. Bank transfers originating from a bank account of an individual to the account of another individual (interbank transfers using digital platforms).
