A Traditional ruler and a Landlord in Keta in the Volta Region of Ghana has been accused of maltreating his tenant. According to Sources, the landlord beats the tenant because her one and half-year-old son broke his (landlord) newly molded blocks.
Speaking to an eyewitness, the landlord reported the behavior of the son to the mother and later went to his room to bring a cane to lash the nurse severely.
The Victim, the nurse was rescued from the molestation by a colleague worker who was home then.
According to the Ghana Nurse Media, The landlord was arrested by the police.
Sharing the news, The Ghana Nurse Media, a social media platform dedicated to sharing news on nurses in Ghana said:
A landlord in Keta was arrested by the Keta Divisional Police over an incident involving him flogging a nurse who lives in his house. His inhumane action happened after the 1 and a half-year-old son of the nurse broke a newly molded cement block in the compound while playing. In response to the damage caused by the child, the Landlord flogged the nurse.
Information gathered indicates that a number of Chiefs from Keta were at the Keta Police Station to bail the accused person (the Landlord who flogged the nurse). The accused person is said to be a traditional ruler.
The suspect was bailed by some chiefs who followed him to the Keta Police Station. He, together with the other accompanying chiefs have pleaded with the victim, in a close meeting after he was bailed. The victim however refused to be calmed by their apologies. Both parties are still at the Keta Police Station at the moment.
Some executives of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) were at the Keta Police Station to offer emotional support to the victim (the nurse) of the flogging incident.
Earlier this morning, The Ghana Nurse Media correspondent was in the house where the incident happened. These are the photos of the reason for which the nurse was flogged. As gathered, the 1 and a half years old son of the nurse was playing in the compound and damaged one of these newly molded cement blocks.
The Landlord confronted the nurse and the nurse promised to pay for the cement block that was damaged by her child. There and then, the Landlord went into his room, pick a cane, and flogged the nurse mercilessly. It took a witness who is a midwife in the same house to save the nurse by taking her to her room.
Nurses and Midwives living in the house of the suspect want to leave for the sake of their comfort. Some nurses and midwives who once lived in the same house testified about several and diverse forms of abuse they experienced while living there.
The administrator of the Keta Municipal Hospital, for the safety of his workers, is unlikely to allow Nurses, Midwives, and any other Health Worker to live in the house of the suspect any longer.
The police will arraign the suspect before court hopefully early next week. Preparations and arrangements are being done to ensure justice is served. As said earlier, the victim is not willing to drop the case even upon several apologies from the suspect and his companies.
