The president of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has brought some hope to Ghanaian teachers after he mentioned that his government will build 10,000 affordable housing units for teachers in Ghana across the country in a space of 2 years.
Over the years many have complained of how Ghanaian teachers are treated with regards to remuneration and motivation and President Akufo-Addo sees a need to put these teachers where they actually belong in the working class.
The president was speaking at the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) 90th-anniversary national delegates conference as a guest of honour when he made this known to the teachers and the entire Ghanaian society at large.
In his speech, he said; “Within the next two years, it is proposed that 10,000 housing units on affordable terms will be developed for teachers across the country”
According to him, the current initiative will involve the provision of housing for both mortgage and rental, through a subsidized loan program and the teacher will be provided an opportunity to own a house in his chosen location.
Adding that the Ministry of Education, which is currently led by Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum Minister of Education is working tirelessly to make this a reality within the time frame provided.
